Electricians in SilverdaleNew streets, modern boards and the next things to add.

Most homes around Silverdale have gone up since the motorway arrived in 1999, and Milldale alone is planned for about 4,000 dwellings. A modern board with RCDs usually comes with them, so the jobs here are additions: EV chargers, outdoor power, extra circuits and solar. We'll pair your job with one licence-checked electrician who does that work near Silverdale.

Silverdale and the new suburbs

After the motorway

The Northern Motorway reached Silverdale on 20 December 1999 and the area grew fast through the 2000s.

Milldale and Wainui

Crown Infrastructure Partners said in 2018 that Milldale would support about 4,000 dwellings, and the wider Wainui area about 9,000, with builders already at work in Millwater across State Highway 1.

Renters doubling

Renting households in the Silverdale statistical area went from 405 in 2018 to 870 in 2023.

The old village

Silverdale itself is small, 636 dwellings in 2023, on the north bank of the Weiti River.

Jobs for a new house

An EV charger. Gen Less says a wall charger should be installed by a registered electrician on its own sub-circuit, with a Type B RCD and cable rated for the charger. WorkSafe also recommends checking the home's maximum demand and using some form of load management for a 32 A charger. See EV chargers in Auckland.

Solar panels. Solar PV is high-risk work, so a licensed electrical inspector checks it and issues a Record of Inspection on top of your Certificate of Compliance. The homeowner rules don't cover solar at all.

Outdoor power and lighting. Decks, spa pools and garden lights need outdoor-rated fittings and RCD protection. See outdoor and garden lighting.

Paperwork to keep from a new build

  • The Certificate of Compliance and Electrical Safety Certificate for the original wiring.
  • The energy work certificate, if electrical work was part of the consented build.
  • A labelled switchboard chart showing which circuit does what.
  • Certificates for anything added later, like a charger or solar.

What we'd do in a new Silverdale home

We'd decide on the EV charger before the garage gets fitted out, even if the car is a year away. Running the cable while the walls and ceiling are easy to reach saves mess later, and the electrician can plan load management from day one.

Questions

Straight answers.

Who is the lines company in Silverdale?

Vector. Its network runs from Wellsford to Papakura, and outages go to 0508 VECTOR (0508 832 867).

I rent a new Milldale townhouse. Do the healthy homes rules apply?

Yes, every private rental has to meet them, new or not. In practice newer homes usually already have a fixed heater and ducted extractor fans, but it's the landlord's job to confirm it in the tenancy agreement.
