Electrical servicesFind your job, and the electrician who specialises in it.
Find the job that's closest to yours below, or tell us what's happening in your own words. We'll match it with one licence-checked electrician near you who does that kind of job week in, week out, and they'll quote you directly.
Something isn't working
Tripping, dead power points, flickering or a smell of something hot: start with electrical repairs and fault finding, or emergency electricians if it can't wait. Smoke, fire or someone hurt means 111 first. If the whole street is dark, that's a power cut for your lines company, not an electrician.
Making your home safer
Old fuses or no RCDs point to a switchboard upgrade or adding RCDs. Cracked rubber or cloth-covered cable is a rewiring question. Smoke alarms come with different rules for rentals and new homes. Buying, selling or just unsure where things stand? An electrical inspection gives you a written picture.
Adding something new
Power points, lighting, downlights, an oven, cooktop or rangehood, an EV charger, data cabling and TV points, or a TV aerial. Big new loads like a charger or an induction cooktop can mean the switchboard needs attention too, so mention everything you're planning.
Rentals and healthy homes
Landlords meeting the healthy homes standards usually need extractor fans and heating work, including heat pump wiring for a new unit's circuit. Landlords and tenants can't do electrical work in a rental themselves, so these jobs always go to a licensed electrical worker.
Supply and bigger jobs
Three-phase power, meter boards and mains, new connections and supply upgrades and underground power all involve your lines company as well as an electrician. Mains work is high-risk work in New Zealand, so expect an independent inspection on top of your certificates.
For businesses
Commercial electricians covers shops, offices and other workplaces, and test and tag is for portable equipment at work. They're matched the same way: one licence-checked electrician who does that kind of job.
Not sure which one fits?
Describe it in a sentence or two, like "half the house went off and won't come back" or "want a charger, not sure the board can take it". That's enough for us to find the right specialist, and they'll ask the rest when they call.
