About us

Terms of useWhat we do, and what's between you and the electrician.

These terms cover this website and our matching service. We pass your job to one licensed electrician, and the work, the price and the certificates are agreed between you and them.

Updated 30 October 2026 · Written by the Sparky Next Door team · How we check our facts

Who we are, and what we do

Blufire Pty Ltd, an Australian company (ABN 14 665 545 282), operates this site as a referral service. We match homeowners' electrical jobs in New Zealand with independent licensed electrical workers.

We don't do, quote, supervise or sign off electrical work, and the electricians we match aren't our employees.

Your agreement is with the electrician

When an electrician takes your job, any quote, booking and contract for the work is between you and them. They're responsible for the work, for doing it within their registration class and licence, and for your certificates: an Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC) for every job, a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for general and high-risk work, and a Record of Inspection for high-risk work.

The Consumer Guarantees Act says a service bought for household use must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, be fit for the purpose you asked for, be finished within a reasonable time if no time was agreed, and cost a reasonable price if none was set. A business can't contract out of it when dealing with consumers.

What we can't promise

  • That an electrician covers your area or your kind of job.
  • How soon an electrician will contact you.
  • What the work will cost.
  • That the work will pass an inspection.
  • Any grant, rebate or subsidy.
  • That a guide on this site fits your exact situation.

Using the guides

Our guides explain New Zealand's rules from official sources, and each one lists them. They're general information about the rules, not advice about your wiring. For anything about your own home, a licensed electrician who has seen it is the right person to ask.

Please don't send fake jobs, or someone else's details, through the quote form.

If something goes wrong

Problems with the work go to the electrician first. Complaints and disputes explains the steps, including the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) and the Disputes Tribunal.
