Why one electrician per job?
Getting an electrician usually means ringing down a list, or posting a job and fielding calls from several tradies at once. Neither tells you who's actually good at the thing you need.
The sparky who fits EV chargers every week isn't automatically the one to track down a fault in an old villa's wiring. So we match on the kind of job first and the area second, and your job goes to one person who does that work.
What we do, and what we leave to the electrician
We check electricians before they see any job, match each job with one of them, and write plain-English guides to New Zealand's electrical rules from official sources.
The electrician does everything else: the visit, the quote, the work and the certificates, all under their own licence. Claiming to be licensed when you aren't is an offence in New Zealand, so you'll never see us call ourselves electricians.
Who runs it
Blufire Pty Ltd, an Australian company (ABN 14 665 545 282), runs Sparky Next Door NZ.
Our editorial policy explains where the facts in our guides come from and how we check them.
Where we're up to
We're starting in Auckland, from the North Shore to Manukau. Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Tauranga are next, as electricians there pass our checks.
There'll be parts of the country we can't cover for a while. If you've got a question about us, our contact page has the right way in.
